We are here....where is here you ask? Well, the sign said Welcome To Georgia. But I was told the weather in GA was warm....it's freaking cold here, so currently, I am not totally buying it. But at this point, if it means that I don't have to get back into the car with two toddlers, I will take it.
Anyhow, starting from the beginning, back in CO....the moving company told us that the packers would be at our house two days, one to pack and the next to load. As it turns out, they came one day....they needed two. They got there early in the morning, packed and packed and packed some more. Decided they needed help....called in another guy, all while leaving the doors open, making the house freezing cold and therefore making my children fussy. Then they finally started loading, when all was said and done, it was late, and snowing! The next day was spent cleaning and then eventually leaving for NM. Christmas in NM was pretty good, we got to see a lot of different people, and I only had to make two trips to the ER, ok that part really was not good. The first one was not totally necessary, but I wanted to make sure I did not have strep, with all the young kids around that's not the kinda thing you want to be sharing.....the next trip was on Christmas day, thanks pink eye! You know it's bad when the nurse says "wow, that they worst I have ever seen it get!" When I left the ER and went to the Theye's house, the first thing Andrea said was "oh my gosh girl, you poor thing." Generally speaking, that's not the kinda thing you want to hear either! My eye was bright red (no pink about it) and almost swollen shut.
The day after Christmas we headed out, hoping to one day make it to GA. My eye itched like crazy and was still partially swollen shut, and my other eye was starting to itch as well (though thankfully it never got nearly as bad). The first night we spent in TX, in a rather sketchy hotel. Jonathan found a weed pipe inside the extra roll of TP.....but they allowed dogs!! :) From then on out we made sure to find a hotel ahead of time on the internet and check the ratings and reviews.
We finally made it to GA four days later, though we ended up staying in a hotel a few more nights until we could get the gas hooked up in our house. This hotel on the other hand, I would have happily stayed in for weeks!! It was clean and nice and had the most yummy breakfast EVER. Seriously.....fresh fruit, eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, biscuits! I was one happy little camper!
My first thoughts in seeing our new place were along the lines of "oh how cute" and "since it's small it will be easier to keep clean." These happy but ignorant thoughts danced around in my head until a few days later when we received all of our stuff and I realized I would be lucky to get 1/8th of it to fit in the house!! Needless to say, most of my kitchen stuff (that I have unpacked at this point) is in big plastic tubs from Walmart sitting in the garage. Whenever I need say, a skillet, I go into the garage, dig around till I find it and come back into the house. Not ideal, but I should be able to handle it for the 6 months we are here. It does wake me up much faster in the morning having to go into the freezing cold garage to get a mug ;)
We still have a few boxes sitting around waiting to be unpacked (including more kitchen stuff, which I may need additional plastic tubs for). I am looking forward to the day that I can walk from one end of the house to the other without having to turn sideways to squeeze by a box or two! :)
While I may be struggling a little with the size of our house, I am not struggling at all with the location! We are very close to the newer part of Columbus. So there are lots of places to eat and shopping within a few minutes drive. My only major complaint is the lack of a Costco. I do miss my Costco! We are very close to a Gold's Gym and have signed up there. So far the kids seem to do well in child care, though I don't think there is any place on the planet that can compare with the YMCA (which I will probably compare every gym against from here on out). And while their will never be another Melissa, I am hoping to look into trying a class or two! We shall see how that goes.
The past two Sunday's we have gone to the Church that Jonathan went to while he was here long ago. So far I like it. We do want to try the church that is a block from our house, but I am pretty sure we have found our church home, that's always a good foundation to have checked off the list.
At this point I have met one other wife here whose husband is taking the same class mine is (though there is another I met in CO). They had a social event where wives and families were invited. Not many wives showed up and only one other wife with a kid was there other than me with the twins. Part of the way through the other family with a kid came up to us saying they thought they would let their son run around with the other kids (aka: the twins). The guy walked up and introduced himself as Jon. hahaha, two Jon's. Then he introduced his wife....Lindsey. CRAZY!! Luckily their son's name was NOT Austin or things might have gotten a little creepy ;) Although she spells her name much differently. Still....CRAZY!!! Their son is about 2 weeks younger than the twins, so hopefully we will be able to get together and let the kiddos run wild at some point. She is due with their second in a few weeks though, so maybe once she is not totally sleep deprived!
Anyhow, I think that's about all I have to update on at this point. Jonathan takes his entrance exam tomorrow, so you can say a prayer for him!! For now....I think I am going to go do some dishes. ;) I miss all my Colorado girls like CRAZY, and Jonathan and I are not sure how we are going to survive without Rob and Jen, but I guess that's military life for you!! Hope everyone is doing well!
